Virginia STW is proud to announce 5 new Schools to Watch for 2010:
Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School, Henry County – Moriah Dollarhite, Principal
Harper Park Middle School, Loudoun County – William (Sam) Shipp, Principal
Mary G. Porter Traditional School, Prince William County – Darci Whitehead, Principal
River Bend Middle School, Loudoun County – Bennett Lacy, Principal
St. Clare-Walker Middle School, Middlesex County – Dr. James Lane, Principal
Here is just a highlight of what makes these Schools outstanding....
Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School is into individualizing instruction, learning styles, and use of technology in a community with about 30% unemployment and 50% free and reduced lunch.
St. Clare-Walker Middle School is in a real middle school facility built in 1994 but looks brand new, with a new principal (2 years) leading them into wonderful instructional practices; he was in a school in Durham which was a NC STW and shared leadership with the staff to seek STW designation.
Harper Park Middle School and River Bend Middle School in Loudoun County are STW #6 and #7 out of their 13 middle schools to be selected; while their buildings are similar, yet the schools retain their individuality and respond to the community; they open 2 to 4 new schools each year.
Mary G. Porter Traditional School is our first 1-8 school in a system of 80 schools and students apply to attend yet the school is quite diverse and has great parental support; traditions are a focus of what they do, and student work posted in the hallways and throughout the building have the instructional objective posted with the work; interdisciplinary teams work with encore teachers to integrate objectives across disciplines.
